Gesundheitszentren<\/span><\/h2>\n

Die \u201eHariharananda Charitable Health Centres\u201d (HCHC) sind, wie alle HAND IN HAND Projekte, die Fortf\u00fchrung dessen, wof\u00fcr Paramahamsa Hariharananda aus Liebe und Mitgef\u00fchl vor Jahrzehnten den Grundstein legte. Im Jahr 1999\/2000 gr\u00fcndete die PRAJNANA MISSION mit der Unterst\u00fctzung von HAND IN HAND die ersten zwei Gesundheitszentren, um Menschen in bitterer Armut freie medizinische Versorgung zu gew\u00e4hrleisten. Das erste HCHC entstand in Cuttack und das zweite in Puri in Odisha, einem der \u00e4rmsten Bundesstaaten Indiens. <\/p>\n

Bereits vier Jahre nach der Er\u00f6ffnung der ersten beiden HCHC konnte ein weiteres Gesundheitszentrum in Bhisindipur eingerichtet werden; und noch im selben Jahr, 2004, wurden die ersten Kinder in die neu er\u00f6ffnete Balashram Internatsschule aufgenommen. Dieser angegliedert ist ebenfalls ein Health Center, welches als eines von zwei \u201eVillage Health Projects\u201c (VHP) an vier Tagen die Woche den Bewohnerinnen und Bewohnern der umliegenden D\u00f6rfer offensteht. Eine zweites d\u00f6rfliches Gesundheitsprojekt (VHP) konnte 2012 in Athagarh gestartet werden.<\/p>\n

Die HCHC Gesundheitszentren erf\u00fcllen vor allem auch die dort ehrenamtlich T\u00e4tigen mit viel Zuversicht und Freude. Es ist \u201edas L\u00e4cheln in den Gesichtern der Patientinnen und Patienten, denen geholfen werden konnte und ihr Staunen dar\u00fcber, geheilt zu sein\u201c, beschrieb einer der \u00c4rzte seine Motivation, am Aufbau der karitativen Gesundheitszentren ehrenamtlich mitzuwirken. Insbesondere das erste Gesundheitszentrum in Cuttack hat eine beispiellose Entwicklung hinter sich und ist heute eine angesehene und weithin bekannte Tagesklinik in Jagatpur.<\/p>\n

Die Zahl der Patientinnen und Patienten steigt unaufh\u00f6rlich an, und mit ihr w\u00e4chst Gott sei Dank auch das Angebot. Aus zwei wurden mittlerweile vier HCHC sowie eine Tagesklinik, und alle zusammen bieten ein breites Spektrum an Gesundheitsdiensten f\u00fcr die unterprivilegierte Bev\u00f6lkerung von Odisha und Westbengalen. <\/p>\n

Dr. Ashok Kumar Mohanty, ein Pionier der HCHC, und viele andere boten ihre Dienste schon im ersten Gesundheitszentrum in Jagatpur (Cuttack) an. In Balighai (Puri) sei besonders viel zu tun gewesen, erz\u00e4hlt Dr. Mohanty: \u201eAlle Doktoren verlie\u00dfen Puri fr\u00fch am Morgen und kehrten von Balighai erst sp\u00e4t in der Nacht zur\u00fcck. In nur zwei Wochen behandelten wir 500 bis 600 Patienten. Viele meiner Doktorfreunde in Cuttack halfen aus, und mit Herz und Seele gaben wir uns ganz dieser Arbeit in den HCHC hin.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

HCHC <\/span>Jagatpur<\/span><\/h4>\n

Das Gesundheitszentrum in Jagatpur, welches 1999 gegr\u00fcndet wurde, ist heute eine renommierte und weithin bekannte Tagesklinik mit einem modernen, allopathischen und physiotherapeutischen Angebot, mit Labordiensten und einer Notfallstation.<\/p>\n

Au\u00dferdem verf\u00fcgt die Klink \u00fcber einen mobilen medizinischen und zahn\u00e4rztlichen Dienst f\u00fcr Gesundheits-Camps in den st\u00e4dtischen Slums und abgelegenen l\u00e4ndlichen Gebieten.<\/p>\n

Neben der konventionellen medizinischen Behandlung der Symptome wird als Pr\u00e4ventivma\u00dfnahme zum Beispiel Yoga unterrichtet, mit dem Ziel, in Armut verstrickte Menschen mit nachhaltigen Gesundheitsma\u00dfnahmen vertraut zu machen.<\/p>\n

In dem Gesundheitszentrum in Balighai, welches im Fr\u00fchsommer 2000 \u00f6ffnete, werden allopathische, hom\u00f6opathische und ayurvedische Dienste angeboten. Zus\u00e4tzlich zur allgemeinen medizinischen Behandlung werden regelm\u00e4\u00dfig Hautbehandlungen durchgef\u00fchrt, ebenso Zahnbehandlungen und Physiotherapie zweimal im Monat. Auch in diesem Gesundheitszentrum werden Angebote zu Gesundheitf\u00f6rderung entwickelt, so wird u.a. auch Yoga angeboten.<\/p>\n

Mobile Medizinische- und Zahntechnische-Einheit (MMDU)<\/h2>\n

Zus\u00e4tzlich zu den Gesundheitszentren gibt es seit 2002 die \u201eMobile Medical and Dental Unit\u201d (MMDU), die in regelm\u00e4\u00dfigen Abst\u00e4nden in schwer zug\u00e4ngliche l\u00e4ndliche Gebiete von Odisha reist. Au\u00dfer der medizinischen und zahntechnischen Versorgung der Bev\u00f6lkerung wird in Camps etwa auch das Bewusstsein f\u00fcr den Wert \u201eGesundheit\u201c und ihre Erhaltung geschult.<\/p>\n

Die MMDU ist ein vollst\u00e4ndiges und klimatisiertes Fahrzeug, das aus zwei Innenr\u00e4umen besteht. Zum einen ist es mit einem modernen Zahnbehandlungsstuhl ausgestattet, zum anderen mit einer schmalen Vorrichtung f\u00fcr einfache Operationen. <\/p>\n

Medizinische Camps<\/h2>\n

Solche werden in st\u00e4dtischen Slums, schwer erreichbaren l\u00e4ndlichen Gebieten ohne Infrastruktur und insbesondere bei Katastrophen f\u00fcr die rasche Hilfe mobilisiert. Zw\u00f6lf solcher mobilen Notstationen wurden etwa 2019 nach den enormen Zerst\u00f6rungen durch Zyklon \u201eFani\u201d in Odisha eingerichtet. Aber auch bei gro\u00dfen indischen Festlichkeiten \u2013 wie \u201eRatha Yatra\u201d, das \u201eFestival of Chariots\u201d, \u2013 spielen diese Medizinischen Camps eine wichtige Rolle. Daran nehmen oft Hunderttausende Pilger:innen sowie Touristinnen und Touristen aus der ganzen Welt teil.<\/p>\n

\u00dcblicherweise errichtet das Camp-Team ein Zelt nahe der Prozessionen, wo kranke oder ersch\u00f6pfte Menschen Aufnahme finden und medizinische Versorgung erhalten. Im Au\u00dfenbereich des Zeltes wird Trinkwasser verteilt.<\/p>\n

    Hariharananda Charitable Health Centres<\/span><\/h2>

    The Hariharananda Charitable Health Centres <\/span>(HCHC), started even before HAND IN HAND was founded. Like all our projects, they are the continuation of what <\/span>Paramahamsa<\/span> Hariharananda began out of compassion and love. His goal was <\/span>\"<\/span>To give food to the hungry, a good education to poor children, and medical care to the sick.<\/span>\"<\/span><\/em><\/p>

    Paramahamsa<\/span> Hariharananda lived his whole life for his dream of a world free from poverty, fear and suffering. Thus, he laid the foundation for those projects in the field of humanitarian aid, which his successor <\/span>Paramahamsa<\/span> <\/span>Prajnanananda<\/span>, in cooperation with HAND IN HAND, has been continuing since 1999.<\/span><\/p>

    Prajnana Mission was founded by him in February 1999, and only a few months later the first Health Centre was opened in Cuttack (Odisha) to provide free medical care for poverty-stricken people. At the same time, HAND IN HAND was founded in Europe as a partner of Prajnana Mission. The HCHC are filled with life by all the doctors and volunteers who have given their time and knowledge for the patients from the very beginning until today.<\/span><\/p>

    In one of the first articles of Spotlight (2005), <\/span>Dr.<\/span> <\/span>Bhanja<\/span> Kishore Sarangi who had been involved from the beginning, gave us an insight into the time when Health Centres were being set up. At that time, only two Centres were in operation: one in <\/span>Jagatpur<\/span>, in the Cuttack district, and another one in Balighai, in the <\/span>Puri<\/span> district. You might be wondering what motivated the doctor\u2018s selfless service \u2013 his answer was: <\/span>\"The smiles on the faces of the patients whom I was able to help, and their amazement at being healed.\"<\/span><\/em><\/p>

    To publicise the new Centres, he discussed with <\/span>Paramahamsa<\/span> <\/span>Prajnanananda<\/span> the possibility of having leaflets printed, or having HCHC advertised through newspapers and other media. But the latter only replied to him, <\/span>\"<\/span>Words travel a thousand miles, but serious and dedicated work is the best advertisement. Let us always remember that service to humanity is service to God.<\/span>\"<\/span><\/em><\/p>

    Dr.<\/span> Ashok Kumar <\/span>Mohanty<\/span> was also pres<\/span>ent from the start. From him we <\/span>learn that it had been relatively easy to <\/span>open the first Health Centre in <\/span>Jagatpur<\/span> (Cuttack) because there were so many<\/span> doctors willing to offer their <\/span>services free of charge to poverty-stricken, destitut<\/span>e people. In Balighai <\/span>(<\/span>Puri<\/span>) on the other hand, the work of the docto<\/span>rs was particularly arduous, as <\/span>Dr.<\/span> <\/span>Mohanty<\/span> reports:<\/span><\/p>

    \"<\/span>All doctors would leave <\/span>Puri<\/span> for Balighai early in the morning and return only late at night. In just two weeks, we had treated 500 to 600 patients. Many of my friends who were doctors in Cuttack helped out, and we devoted our hearts and souls to the work in the HCHCs.<\/span>\"<\/span><\/p>

    In essence, even without leaflets, the number of patients treated has increased many times over. And two became five HCHCs: three government-approved Health Centres, one of which has become a Day Clinic, and two Village Health Projects. Together, all the HCHCs provide a wide range of health services to the deprived population of Odisha and West Bengal.<\/span><\/p>

    A small hospital with a focus on allopathy and homeopathy is located in <\/span>Arua<\/span>, within the Balashram Residential School, which was opened in the summer 2004. The hospital is affiliated with Balashram, but since 2010 is also open four days a week to the residents of the surrounding villages as a Village Health Project. Dental camps are also held twice a month.<\/span><\/p>

    Mobile Medical and<\/h2>

    Dental Unit<\/h2>

    In addition to the Health Centers, the Mobile Medical and Dental Unit (MMDU) travels to remote rural areas of Odisha every year at regular intervals to provide health checkups, health camps, dental camps, health awareness camps, social awareness camps, and to distribute free medicine.<\/p>

    MMDU service was inaugurated in August 2002. The MMDU is a completely self-sufficient, air-conditioned vehicle, consisting of two chambers. The first chamber is equipped with a modern dental chair and ancillary setup. The second chamber has a small operating theater for simple surgery. Cases which require more advanced treatment are referred to a hospital in the neighboring city.<\/p>

    Medical Camps<\/h2>

    Medical Camps take place during big celebrations in India, such as \u201cRatha Yatra\u201d in Puri. The Festival of Chariots attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. Usually the Medical Camp Team set up a tent near the procession where sick or exhausted pilgrims could be attended to. Outside the tent, drinking water is distributed \u2013 also an ambulance is available for emergency cases. With such a huge crowd, the danger of getting hurt or receive severe damage is high and immediate help on the site is of a crucial importance.<\/p>

    Medical Camps are also quickly mobilized during the time of disasters. After the Cyclone \"Fani\" in 2019 which caused huge devastation and destruction, an immediate support was offered via Mobile Medical Camps in 12 locations in Odisha.<\/p>
